I placed this big bird cage over my peas and they are loving all the support! I have a couple of peppers down there that will grow up and through the top I hope.

I planted peas in the top so they will hang down and two different types of radishes on the bottom so they will grow up. We'll see what happens. It might not be deep enough for anything much to happen but we'll see. I stuck some dirt in the little hole on the top and put a succulent or two up there.

Today was such a beautiful day. The air was crisp and clean. We went to the Huntington Gardens and had tea in the fancy tea room. Then we walked to the Children's and Cactus Gardens.

I innocently came outside the other scortching day and happened to look at the tomato plants that were on their last legs and found these gigantic green monster hornworms munching away. Wow! I was kinda taken a back and haven't figured out my next move in the garden.

We visited the Sequoia National Forest. We camped in the Giant Forest . This picture does no justice to the true majesty of these giants. At the base they are as big as a house around. We visited a tree that was 2,200 years old called General Sherman.

We put a layer of bamboo over our arbor for some added shade and somehow Cappy crawled inbetween and found a purrrrfect place to chillax. I love the tail hanging down.

We went to Eaton Canyon this weekend to catch (and release) tadpoles. On the way to the river we came across this hallow but still alive tree. Amazing! I think it's an old oak tree.

Disneyland. Storybook land was my favorite. It had all these beautiful bonsai trees in these miniature landscapes. My favorite was this succulent quilt that a giant sleeps under.

Stella the smart super model found a safe hiding spot from Oscar the dog; behind the rose bush. Those smokey eyes and that coffee colored fluff. I love how her one blue eye is just so beautiful and the pink roses...The moments are beautiful!

I received this Moringa oleifera as a gift. The only sunny spot left for now is in the lawn. A friend came over and said "let's plant that tree" so we cut a hole in the lawn and here you have it. As we were planting it Oscar came by and ate the top of the tree off. Hence, my friend's smart idea of placing this old birdcage over it until it gets a little stronger and bigger. This tree is one of the fastest growing trees. It is an exceptionally nutritious vegetable tree with a variety of potential uses and I guess the dog somehow knew it.

New OrleansI went to the Jazz Fest a couple of weeks ago and that was the first time I had ever been to New Orleans. It was beautiful, old and atmospheric. A place with soul. And the Gospel tent rocked!

I guess this is going to be an Easter cactus Hatiora gaertneri , or more appropriately a Passover cactus because I inherited it from Dani's Grandma, Ibi. She passed away 2 years ago at the age of 97. She was a very elegant lady and the color really reminds me of her. I think she's smiling at me through these flowers.

I got this beautiful African Violet a year ago at the African Violet show at Descanso Gardens. It's blooming again and seems very happy. I love the pot. I got that at the same time as the plant. African Violets remind me of my grandma Edith who used to always have blooming Violets in her window in the dining room. She was always starting little leaves outside on her porch into new plants.

There is this patch of soil out near the street and next to our driveway. When we moved in in June there was an old mexican marigold plant there, that must of been 30 years old. In the heat of the summer it just burnt to a crisp. Maybe it would of been able to come back to life but I couldn't take looking at this burnt up crisp of a plant everyday in the blazing heat so I took it out. I replanted a Phormium and Pennisetum and I just moved the rosemary that was by the garage out there as well. Recently these beautiful Narcissus/paperwhites that Hilda (Hilda is the woman who lived here before us since the 1960's) must of planted years ago popped up. They are coming up all over the yard along with iris' and tulips. I'm not that good with bulbs but now that I've moved into a house that had built in bulbs I'm really enjoying the beautiful surprises that just pop out of the ground.

I'm taking a class called Patio to Plate at Descanso Gardens with a great teacher Darren Butler. He asked us to do a site evaluation for where we wanted to plant the edibles. Definetly the South and West sides of the house. It was such a fun project and it made me do this drawing that I've wanted to do.

I am pulling myself away from my garden Saturday, February 23rd from 3:50-4:35pm to teach a yoga class for the Lineage Dance festival. The class will be held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

This is my present from my husband for our 5th wedding anniversary which is today. I hope I don't kill it :) It's a ten year old California Juniper. I went to see the man who sold it to Dani and he said to keep it outside water it every three days with the hose and feed it this weird "green" food that he provided. He said it likes sun but when it's really hot I need to give it some shade. We'll see what happens. It sure is beautiful.

I meant to upload this for Bloom Day but missed the boat with too much stuff going on. Anyway, here it is the only thing that's really blooming like crazy are these beautiful Camellia trees that are on the north side of my house. There are three of them and this light pink one is the only one that has started to spit out the flowers. I think the other two may be different shades of pink but I'm not sure yet. They are beautiful and this one is right outside my bedroom window. The flowers are so perfect. I didn't want to wash it out with my flash and there wasn't quite enough light by the time I took the picture hence the blurry photo. So anyway, I took this on Bloom day but didn't get to posting it until now. Maybe next month I'll be more successful.

This plant is called Love Lies Bleeding, I went to visit my friend at her mother-in-laws house in Pt. Reyes Northern California and she had this among the veggies in her garden. I went to the local farmers market while I was up there and found three that I took home with me. I love the name and the plant. They say if you don't have spinach you can eat the leaves as such.I can't wait to see this in full bloom it's just starting to push hundreds of little purple flowers out into one big ball. It looks like some kind of succulent but I haven't identified it yet, it was here when we moved in.

It's been so long since I've really had time to report on my garden. I moved and started a new job so that probably explains it. I brought over a bunch of plants from my old place and have just been trying to find places where they are happy. I can't believe how beautiful these roses are. One blazing day at Trader Joes I saw this beautiful pink rose and couldn't resist. I'm so happy whenever I see it against the cool blue of the succulant right next to it, that I don't know the name of.
